Attached to this page is a series of Webquests prepared under the auspices
of the Discovering Democracy Program as part of a Quality Teaching Project No. 3.
Each has scaffolding provided to assist the students and the teacher to enjoy the Webquest. Everything from resources to marking guidelines is provided. They each stand on their own and have all the material necessary within them.
Stage 4
Amerindians - a group webquest about democracy and constitutions which asks the question Who was first with a form of democracy and a written constitution in the modern western world? It questions the argument that the European Americans had the first.
Roman Government- Pompey to Augustus - a group webquest about the end of democracy in Rome, firstly under threat and then the move to the empire. The question posed is, Of all the important personages of the time who had the influence to bring democracy undone and how did it happen?
William the Conqueror - from unknown to king - a group webquest designed to help students understand the nature of leadership and kingship in the Middle Ages and to develop their research skills, together with developing an understanding of timelines
Federation - a group webquest which asks the questions, what worried the colonies pre-federation and why did they agree to federate?
Heritage - a very involved and detailed group webquest. You should allow 2 weeks of classes and could involve outside support (parents, friends, etc) in the activity
The Dismissals - an individual webquest which looks at the role of the governor and governor general in the dismissals of Jack Lang and Gough Whitlam and asks the question, What sort of Democracy do we have in Australia?
Migration - an individual webquest for students to develop an understanding of what it takes to come to Australia as a migrant. Each student becomes a migrant seeking settlement in Australia. The webquest also helps students understand what Australia can offer - an idea they sometimes find hard to believe
Political Parties - a group webquest which asks the question Why have Political Parties?
Changing recount writing to account writing using nominalisation and connectives - a series of lessons suitable for Years 9 - 11
