HALF-YEARLY EXAMINATION ADVICE

Week 4, 17 th – 21 st May

EXAMINATION STRUCTURE:

•  Length: 1 hour (plus 5 minutes reading time).

•  The examination paper consists of two parts:

Section I Short Answers – Total of 30 marks

Section II Extended Response – Total of 20 marks

Please note that the order of sections has been reversed from that shown on the examination advice sheet. This change has been advised to all students in class before the examination.

TOPICS TO BE EXAMINED:

The examination may ask questions from any of the following topics that have been covered in class:

Imperial China (Chapter 5: p110-125)

• i. Geography of China (5.1)

• ii. Religion (5.2)

• iii. Shi Huangdi (5.3-5.4)

• iv. Han Dynasty (5.5-5.6)

• v. Role of Women (5.7)

Medieval Europe (Chapter 7: p154-163)

• i. Medieval Europe (7.1)

• ii. Feudal System (7.2)

• iii. Castles (7.3-7.4)

Students should note that the examination will draw on information drawn from class notes, the textbook, assessment tasks and handouts. As with all examinations, students must read the questions carefully so that they use the relevant information and structure.

OUTCOMES BEING ASSESSED

M4.4 – describes people's differing experiences of citizenship

M4.9 – identifies the meaning, purpose and context of simple historical sources in order to draw basic conclusions about their usefulness for the purposes of a specific historical inquiry

M4.10 – recognises different perspectives about individuals, groups, events and issues, with some guidance

M4.14 – creates texts using evidence to retell, describe, explain and argue, with guidance.

MATERIALS REQUIRED:

•  Blue or black pen – bring spares as well
