Newspaper research assignment

Topic: LEGAL EAGLES

TASK:

Search the daily newspapers to find four articles that report on cases currently being heard in the courts. Make sure they are not all from the same level of court.

For each article, answer the following questions.

    1. In which court is the case being heard?
    2. Is it a civil or criminal case?
    3. Which branch of law does this case involve?
    4. What is the claim or charge?
    5. Who is the defendant? Who is the plaintiff/prosecutor?
    6. What stage of the case is being reported on in the newspaper article? (eg opening statements, jury deliberation, defence evidence, judgement/verdict etc.)
    7. What is the case about? (Give brief details)
    8. What is the date & source of the article ?

Each question is worth 1 mark.

NOTE: In addition to your responses to the above questions, you will also be assessed on the quality of the articles you have selected. This will be worth 2 marks for each article. Please take the time to choose carefully. An article that doesn't include most of the details covered by the questions will not be considered to have been a very good choice.
